This 1,250-wire daylily hybridizing kit was assembled to provide useful items for the collection, use and storage of daylily pollen and seeds in the hybridization process. Can also be used for other plants. The items included in the kit are:
- Four pages of instruction material explaining basic pollen collection,
use, and storage and seed collection and storage using the items
supplied in this kit.
- 1,250 Wire Pollen Markers consisting of 25 different color patterns, 50
wires each color. These wires measure 3-1/2 long. Each 50-wire set is
in a ziplock plastic bag with a label identifying the wire color and a
space to write the name of the pollen parent.
- 200 Microcentrifuge Tubes, 1.5 ml, for pollen storage. These tubes
have an attached snap-on flat top. They measure 3/8" in diameter and
1-9/16" in length and have a cone-shaped base. These can be stored in
the freezer to keep a viable supply of pollen for future use.
- One 80-Place Storage Rack for taking microtubes with pollen to the
field. It is long and narrow and fits on one side of the garden tote.
- 100 Hybridizing 'Bread Style' Tags, 1" x 3-1/4", for
marking crosses. They are handy for marking individual
scapes, or both ends of an entire row. Can also be used
on single flowers. Just open the flap wide, carefully,
place around stem and close flap.
-75, one ounce plastic souffle cups and lids for collecting
pollen and for drying seeds.
- Four pages of Pollen Parent Name and Wire Color forms for keeping
track of each wire assigned to your pollen parents. Also included is a
form to keep track of any wire color combinations you might make by
twisting two different wires together.
- 500 - 2x3 ziplock plastic bags with write-on blocks. These bags are for
collecting and storing seed.
- 2 long, narrow plastic trays for holding and wires and
other items. These measure 8" long x 2-1/2 wide x 2"
deep.
-Two 5", "drop-proof" reverse action tweezers for
holding anther while applying pollen to stigma.
- One 5-1/2" clasping forceps with straight end for removing the
stamens containing the pollen-carrying anthers from the daylily
flower.
- One handy divided black garden tote with handle for hauling the items
above that you need in the field.
